Speaking Engagements

Thank you for your presentation. I never knew how interesting cemeteries could be! — S. Fanger

Honored to speak with a thoughtul, inquisitive audience at the Boston Public Library. We discussed the history of modern rural garden cemeteries, and how I got started exploring them several years ago.

“It’s easy to say that our community here at Mission Hill absolutely enjoyed Roberto Mighty’s presentation on Why We Love Cemeteries. From history to horticulture, the audience learned a great deal as to the importance of cemeteries both for the dead and for the living. Roberto made this sometimes morbid topic into one of great interest through his enthusiasm to share what he’s learned with others. We’re so appreciative!” - Amy Layton, Boston Public Library, Parker Hill Branch

" My team was totally engaged in our conversation with Roberto as he shared his work on, "We Were Here Too",  a part of Boston's Unmoument Project. His amazing research and  information about the Black Community and  untold stories/narratives, aligned perfectly with the work of Facing History on looking at the past to more illuminate the present and bring into light the untold stories of history.  We were all mesmerized and appreciated the time to ask questions."

https://wellesleyfreelibrary.libcal.com/event/8556592

Join us for a virtual screening of "Legacy of Love" and live Q&A with filmmaker Roberto Mighty. “Legacy of Love”, a 2020 documentary film by Roberto Mighty, hosted by EMMY- award winning newscaster Reverend Liz Walker, is about how Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott met in 1952, fell in love, dreamed a new world together, and resolved to dedicate their union to the civil rights movement. No matter what the cost. The film was funded by King Boston and The Boston Foundation. The film ends with brief commentaries by Boston-area religious and community leaders, representing Christian, Jewish and Moslem houses of worship; and political/community leaders who are Asian-American (Michelle Wu!), African-American, Latin-American and majority. The WGBH-TV public television premier was in August 2020. Since then, Producer Roberto Mighty and the film have been requested by college, school, library and community groups across the USA. In 2021, the National Educational Telecommunications Association announced they will make "Legacy of Love" available to public television stations around the country.

"We are so lucky to have had Roberto Mighty come to speak to our class. He was incredibly engaging and so generous to share his time and his many amazing experiences with us. In addition to sharing his journey, he spoke about embracing technology and social media, and committing to doing what one loves. We couldn’t be more grateful for his visit. Thank you Roberto!" July 20th, 2023: Roberto Mighty’s guest Lecture/Screening at Northeastern University: “Interviewing Techniques for Documentary Filmmaking & Journalism” Thanks to Donald Rockhead for this photo, and his JRNL 2301 class for inviting me to speak and screen an episode of “World’s Greatest Cemeteries.” The students asked terrific questions.

"It was a very interactive learning experience for me in terms of watching a documentary. It was an added bonus to talk and share my thoughts about Legacy of love with the director Roberto himself. It was refreshing to see Martin Luther King's other side through his family life with Coretta and her influence on his activism. Alex did a fine job hosting the session!"  Pooja Bambha Arora, PhD, Instructor, Communication Skills Northeast Wisconsin Technical College, Green Bay, WI

“What a thrill and honor to have filmmaker Roberto Mighty as a special guest in my Creative Producing class at Boston University. Both the students and I were inspired by his wisdom, his honesty, his drive and his creativity. What's more, I marveled at how he made an indelible impression on each student in such a short time. He even learned their names and their career interests in less than one class period. - Amy Geller, Lecturer, Boston University

“We had the pleasure of hosting Roberto Mighty for a screening of his documentary, Legacy of Love, which was followed by a very engaging Q and A with Mr. Mighty. Here’s a comment from a library patron who thoroughly enjoyed the program, “Great topic and the filmmaker was excellent -- in every way.”

Roberto Mighty’s creative documentary storytelling was an inspiration for our Youth Service Professionals here at the Club. The film served as an anti-racist teaching opportunity and the Q&A lead to some transformative conversations.” Alex Zacarias, Director of Diversity & Youth Voice, Boys & Girls Club Green Bay, WI

Screening at Jewish Cemeteries of Greater Cincinnati

Mr. Mighty went to great lengths to interview contemporaries of the Scott/Kings and in so doing, captured their living history in an extraordinary manner. The film is at once educational, heartfelt and utterly delightful. It’s focus on Coretta Scott brings home the importance of her role in the story and highlights her as a unique and important woman who was as committed to the civil rights movement as her husband.”  Ellen Meyers, Newton Free Library Programs and Communications Director

“Roberto Mighty remains one of our favorite guest speakers. His experience and wisdom as a filmmaker and producer—not to mention artist—is invaluable to audiences of all ages, but especially to those who are beginning their creative journeys. Students appreciate his approachability and familiarity. But what they respond to most is Roberto’s genuine interest in them, their work and their ambitions. We hope to have him back soon!” Ken Calhoun, Interim Dean | Professor of Graphic Design, School of Communication and the Arts, Lasell University

“I was highly impressed with Roberto Mighty’s skills at moderating and balancing the discussion for Cambridge Forum’s BLACK HISTORY ON REWIND.  He researched his material thoroughly in advance but managed to integrate his knowledge into a very personal dialogue and thus was able to elicit excellent and thoughtful responses from his interviewees.  This was no small task as all three guests were bright, eloquent individuals with a lot to say!  However, Roberto was able to steer the discussion effortlessly to cover all the subject matter, but with grace and charm.  I would not hesitate to have him back as a moderator for Cambridge Forum - he is an outstanding, kind intellectual.” Mary Stack Director, CAMBRIDGE FORUM

"The video that you chose was a testament to life! Should anyone have had reservations about the topic, a cemetery, was greatly rewarded by being in the audience. The film weaves through life always accenting a thought with beautiful photography. Even shots of flowers become alive as the wind rustles through and causes our minds to wonder. Yes, the person died but we are brought back to life with the rich visual depiction of what is worth living for. The diverse examples of lives that you have chosen again give moments to pause and reflect. The young slave, the young physician who tries to heal smallpox only to fall prey to the devastating disease, the Asian family who faces death in reverse order burying a son before the parents – all these examples become life affirming. The voices, the music and the text all add to the artistry of this film. It was definitely an evening that we’ll remember and ponder for a long time. As another comment, let me mention that residents are coming to me to let me know how much they enjoyed your talk. One resident told me that it was the best she heard at Youville House! Needless to say… they want you back!!!”
